Province of Manitoba: Proclamation of Waste Reduction Week by Conservation

Inkster Elementary School: Expansion of Blue
Box program, new vermicompost bin in Grade 3 classroom.
Ecole LaVerendrye: Recycling promotion, Waste-Free
Wednesday.
H.S. Paul School: Presentation by RCM's Environmental
Speakers Bureau to Ecokids Club, WRW notice in school newsletter.
Manitou Elementary School: Monday - student
recycling demonstrations;Tuesday - assembly with guest speaker; Wednesday
- making recycled paper;Thursday - litterless lunch, starting used-on-one-side
paper re-use bank ineach classroom.
Ruth Hooker School: Each morning the principal
will read a question from the Waste Reduction Quiz and students will
submit answers. Correct ones will be drawn for prizes. Facts about Waste
Reduction will be read over the intercom each morning, as well. All prizes
will be environmentally friendly. Activity sheets and information will
also be provided to teachers to share with their students relating to
various environmental topics.
Other activities: Monday - math coded message
activity; Tuesday - community clean-up; Wednesday - litterless lunch,
prizes for litter-least homerooms; Thursday - used toy and book swap.
Glen Elm School: Neighbourhood clean-up, promotion
of paper reduction.
Ecole Margaret Underhill: litterless lunch,
recycling and vermicomposting.
Duck Bay School: Classrooms compete to recycle
the most.
Garden Valley Collegiate: recycling paper,
cans and bottles.
Neil Campbell School: Litterless lunch
Garden Grove School: Recycling promotion
Archwood School: Promotion of walking to school,
recycling and reusing one-sided paper; litterless lunch.
U of M Recycling and Environmental Group (UMREG): Commuter
Challenge, Sustainability Pledge drive, free fair-trade coffee provided
to owners and purchasers of reusable mugs, vermicomposting workshop,
Mt. Trashmore - all the garbage from University Centre piled in a high-traffic
area with stats indicating how much material is going to the landfill
and how much is recyclable.
U of M Transport Institute, I.H. Asper School of
Business: recycling promotion.
U of W Ecological Males And Females In Action (EcoMAFIA): Free
vermicomposting workshop, environmental speakers, energy and transportation
display, dumpster-dive bingo, stuff-swap.
Red River College: Tours to Versatech recycling
facility, launch of a waste reduction newsletter, press release of composting
program year one results, release of results of the 02/03 Paper Efficiency
Campaign, daily emails with waste reduction tips, launch of an Energy
Efficiency Campaign, window display showing two weeks of wasted paper
in the library, "Grand Giveawayî.
The Fairmont Winnipeg: promotion of wire hanger
reuse to employees.
City of Portage la Prairie: Promotion of municipal
composting program,radio and TV ads promoting waste reduction in schools,
homes and businesses.
RM of Lorne: Official WRW proclamation by
municipal council, published in local newspaper.
City of Thompson: Formal proclamation issued
by Mayor Bill Comaskey, advertisement in Thompson Citizen, recycling
presentation in Eastwood School.
Town of Roblin: WRW notice in Roblin Review
newspaper.
Rotary Club of Brandon: Household Hazardous
Waste Day, October 18

all Brandon households, explaining and promoting the new recycling system.
