Welcome to Waste Reduction Week 2010 in Manitoba

Here you will find information on waste - and waste reduction - in Manitoba. Check out the special pages of this site for tonnes of ideas ... practical things you can do to make a difference.

Waste Reduction Week encourages Manitobans to reduce waste and to take up other simple earth-friendly practices. There is a lot we can do to cut down on waste in our everyday lives at home, at school, at work and in the community.

Find out more. Take action. Then make waste reduction a year-round habit!

Tell us what you are doing

Here are two ways to let us hear about your activities:

1. E-mail the information directly to . Tell us what you plan to do and how many people will be participating in the activity. We will post the information on our Events page so others will know about your plans.

PRIVACY NOTE - We will respect your privacy, but we would like to provide some information about who is doing the activity. For example: "The Jones family of Winnipeg is collecting leaves for their compost." Or "Students at Smart Street School in Brandon are holding a litterless lunch day on October 22." Or "My Local Business is starting a recycling program in their office." Or "The R.M. of Spirited Energy has declared Waste Reduction Week and is having an open house at the recycling depot." We won't make individual names, telephone numbers or e-mail addresses public.

2. Register your event through the national web site of Waste Reduction Week in Canada. On their site, click the Register tab and select a category -- Municipalities, Schools, Businesses, Not-for-Profit Organizations, Municipalities/Governments, or Individuals.

About Waste Reduction Week

2010 is the tenth year for WRW in Manitoba. Communities, schools and businesses around the province are taking part. It's a chance to highlight the need for action on waste and to encourage participation in waste reduction and diversion programs.

Resource Conservation Manitoba co-ordinates Waste Reduction Week 2010 in Winnipeg, with support from Manitoba Conservation, Multi-Material Stewardship Manitoba, Manitoba Hydro, and the City of Winnipeg. Communities outside Winnipeg can also check with the Manitoba Association of Regional Recyclers for information on Waste Reduction Week.
