The Winnipeg Campus Commuter Challenge is an annual sustainable transportation event designed to showcase, reward, and hopefully increase the commitment of the students and staff of Winnipeg’s post-secondary institutions to using methods other than single-passenger motor vehicles to get to and from school. Cycling, walking, taking the bus, carpooling, and any other way you can think of are ways to take the Challenge.

Students, faculty and staff...
Students and staff of Red River College, College Universitaire St. Boniface, University of Manitoba, and University of Winnipeg are eligible to participate.

Why should I participate?
Commuting by car is the single largest source of greenhouse gas emissions and air pollution in Manitoba. Plus, 63% of Manitobans do not get enough physical activity, which is linked to poorer health and increased levels of stress. To top it all off, there are some fantastic prizes to be awarded to participants, such as transit passes, gear from Mountain Equipment Co-op, gift certificates from Natural Cycle, and passes to the YM-YWCA, among many others!

How do I participate?
Each day during the week of March 8-12, commute to and from school using any transportation method besides a single passenger motor vehicle. Then, tell us how you commuted using the online registration form, and you will be automatically entered in the draw for the prize of your choice. That’s all there is to it!

Come to the Commuter Convergence, Friday, March 12
The Campus Commuter Challenge will wrap up with a Commuter Convergence in the student lounge at College Universitaire St. Boniface (200 Avenue de la Cathédrale). The Convergence begins at 2 pm and will feature the announcement of prize-winners, silly games for additional prizes from Mountain Equipment Co-op, a winter cycling workshop by Natural Cycle, free food and refreshments for all participants, and of course plenty of like-minded individuals with whom you may distract yourself from your studies for as long as you want!
