Build Support
In order for a program to be effective, there has to be buy-in from
all levels of an organization. From those who are willing to devote
a bit of time and effort to develop a plan, to those who will agree
to assign a budget to implement those plans, everyone must be on-board.
Build a Team of Champions
Build a community of helpers. For example, Public Works and Government
Services Canada- Winnipeg downtown office is working with their
Green Citizenship Committee to move forward on a Green Commuting
plan. Manitoba Hydro has established a Green Commuting Committee,
sponsored by the CEO, to help develop and implement a trip reduction
strategy.
In your case it may be the workplace wellness or social committee
that sees the related benefits of a green commuting promotion program.
Or, assemble a group of existing avid green commuters who are willing
to volunteer their time to make your workplace a better place for
them (and others at the same time!)
