Evaluate
Your Plan
Most participants in green commuting programs report that they save
money, are less stressed, more physically fit, and have greater job
satisfaction as a result. Evaluating your plan will ensure the same
success in your workplace, and will help to get the word out on these
attributes.
Revisit Objectives
It’s important to provide on-going evaluation as conditions
and priorities change for employees commuting needs. Civic situations
may change, with new facilities and improved services for walking,
cycling and taking transit. As these are developed, it is important
to incorporate them into your plan.
Evaluation will also encourage you to revisit original goals and
priorities and make changes to incentives / programs to develop a
new set of targets. After one or two years, run the survey anew with
just the questions related to mode of commuting (i.e. cycling, walking,
carpooling, transit, telework) to see if the split between the types
of green commuting used has changed. You will have new employees
with different needs, so make room for them as you continue to adapt
your program.

Show Benefits
Look for behaviour changes and seek out stories from employees about
how satisfied (or dissatisfied) they may be with new programs and
services. Communicate these stories or anecdotal evidence to show
how employees are better off physically and financially, how the
workplace reaps productivity and loyalty benefits, and how the community
benefits from reduced emissions and cleaner air thanks to your green
commuting plan.
