An Overview of RCM
RCM is a non-profit, non-governmental organization,
registered as a charity since 1989. Programs focus on sustainable
transportation, waste reduction, climate change, and sustainable
living. In addition, RCM's elected community
Board makes formal representations from time to time on issues
such as utility rates, Extended Producer Responsibility, ecological
fiscal reform, and urban planning.
We acknowledge with appreciation the support of individual donors,
The Winnipeg Foundation, the WRAPP Fund
of Manitoba Conservation, the Climate and Green Initiatives Branch
of Manitoba Science, Technology, Energy and Mines, the City of
Winnipeg, and Environment Canada. Event sponsors include Manitoba Hydro, Great-West Life,
Investors Group, and the Manitoba Product Stewardship Corporation.
RCM's Mission and Principles
RCM promotes applied, ecological
sustainability through environmental education and the development of
alternatives to currently unsustainable practices. Formerly the
Recycling Council of Manitoba, the relatively widespread
introduction of recycling initiatives in Manitoba (during the 1990s)
allowed us to focus more of our efforts on other waste reduction issues.
We renewed our mandate, redirected our
activities and changed our name to reflect these broader
priorities.
